How to solve sudoku 1 of 6

Singles: the two steps every sudoku starts with

A single is a square where only one digit still fits, or a digit that can only go in one place in a group. With these two steps you solve every easy sudoku all the way — and in a hard one they do most of the work.

Naked single

Only one digit still fits in this one square: the other eight are already in the same row, column or box. Then there’s nothing to figure out — you write it down.

Hidden single

Don’t look at one square but at one group: in this row, column or box a certain digit can only go in one place. More digits might fit in that square, but this digit can’t go anywhere else — so it belongs there.

If the 7 is already in two of the three rows of a box, and the third row has only one square left, that’s the square for the 7.
